CERTIFICATE OUTLINE

Here's how it works: Your certificate program consists of courses designed to take you step-by-step toward understanding all the essential elements of Business Management. Your first course will be sent to you as soon as your enrollment has been accepted. Other courses will follow as you complete your exams, so that you will always have study materials to work with.

System Requirements
You will need access to a computer to complete this program. Penn Foster Career School recommends the following as minimum specifications: Pentium® II or better processor, using Microsoft® Windows® XP or later.You will also need to have access to the Internet and Microsoft® Office 2007 to complete portions of this program.

This outline covers all the courses required for your study-at-home certificate program. You complete the following courses in the order indicated:

BUS101 Introduction to Business
Business in a global environment; starting and growing a business; human resources; marketing; information and technology; finances.

BUS110 Principles of Management
The business environment; planning; organizing; leading and controlling.

MAT106 Math for Business and Finance
Percentages; discounts; interest; present worth; sinking funds; installment buying; pricing; depreciation; investments; insurance; use of symbols and their applications, equations and formulas; importance of statistics.

CSC104 Computer Applications
Hardware and software; computer networks; information systems; personal computer systems; legal and ethical dilemmas. Software applications include creating a resume, spreadsheet, and slide presentation.

ACC111 Financial Accounting
Analyzing transactions; completing the accounting cycle; merchandising businesses; inventories, assets, and liabilities; and corporations, stocks, bonds, and cash flow.

BUS121 Economics I
Macroeconomics; the cost of living; monetary systems; international factors; short run economic fluctuations.

ACC112 Managerial Accounting
Introduction to managerial accounting; analyses: C-V-P and management; budgeting and performance evaluation; decentralized operations; differential analysis and product pricing; and capital investment analysis, and cost activities. PREREQ: Financial Accounting

HRM101 Human Resources Management
An overview of Human Resources Management (HRM), as it’s understood today. This course illustrates the dynamic interaction of the personnel functions with each other and with the objectives of an organization.
PREREQ: Principles of Management

ENG010 Business English
Business letters, forms, client records, and memos; organization, grammar, punctuation, and sentence and paragraph construction; coherent paragraphs, well-organized documents, and purpose-focused materials; accurate, attractive, and effective final copies.

BUS213 Business Law I
American court practice and procedure; torts; employment law; international law; environmental law; contract law.
PREREQ: None

Online Library and Librarian
Students in Penn Foster Career School have access to an online library for use during their studies. Students can use this library to do the required research in the courses they complete or can use it for general reference and links to valuable resources. The library contains helpful research assistance, articles, databases, books, and Web links. A librarian is available to answer questions on general research-related topics via email and assist students in research activities during their studies with Penn Foster Career School.
