Retiring Baby Boomers to Vacate the Job Market.

As baby boomers — those born between 1946 and 1964 — start to plan for their retirement, employers will find it difficult to fill their positions with skilled employees. In addition, more jobs will be created trying to provide for the growing needs of an aging population.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the greatest need for higher skilled workers will be in health care, education, accounting, and computer services over the next ten years.

The demand for accounting and auditing has been driven by the need for corporate compliance with tougher financial regulations, and by the baby boomers’ demand for retirement services.*

Many government jobs are now dominated by baby boomers. Future shortages of workers are projected in the fields of transportation and the traditional skilled trade professions, such as plumbers, carpenters, and mechanics.
