Total Cost

The total cost of the program will be between $6,100 - $6,600*.¹ The cost per semester is based on a price of up to $109 per credit. The total credits and the cost per credit are subject to change per semester. Program cost does not reflect any prior eligible credits you may transfer in, or credits awarded through a Price Learning Assessment. Your program consists of four semesters. You must complete a separate re-enrollment application for each semester. The Medical Assistant A.S. Degree consists of 60 credits (Semester One: 14 credits, Semester Two: 16 credits, Semester Three: 15 credits, Semester Four: 15 credits). Penn Foster College reserves the right to adjust the tuition and fees in subsequent semesters. In addition, a non-refundable shipping and handling fee of $65 for each semester will be charged.

*The difference between the payment options is the dollar amount the credit will cost you for selecting a monthly payment plan versus paying in full.

Enrollment Requirements

• Age - 17
• Education - HS Diploma or GED 
• Technology Requirements - You will need access to high-speed internet to begin your program. In addition, you will need access to a Microsoft^® Windows^® based computer running Windows 10^® or later or an Apple^® Mac^® computer running macOS^® Sierra Version 11.2 or later, Microsoft^® Office 2019 or Microsoft 365^® and an email account to complete this program with Penn Foster.

• Study Time
  • 12 months to complete a semester
• Webinars and Discussion Boards
  • The medical assistant program requires students to participate in weekly interactive discussion board activity related to medical topics pertinent to the course being studied. Students will be required to respond to discussion topics posted by the faculty and other students each week. In addition, the core medical assistant courses will require students to participate in scheduled online classes with the instructor and other students. In order to earn a passing grade in these courses, students will be required to provide substantive comments on discussion topics and to participate in the live online classes.
• Two Basic Skills Assessment Tests
  • One in Reading, one in Math
• Proctored Exams
  • Remote proctored exams are available for several courses.
• Clinical Procedures Labs
  • In Semesters 4 
    • These clinical procedures labs must be proctored by a licensed professional such as an LPN, RN, CMA, Physician, etc.
    • Students will need a volunteer over the age of 18 to assist in the demonstration of some skills.
• Clinical Externship 
  • In Semester 4
    • When students reach their externship assignment, they will be expected to submit weekly timesheets, a mid-experience survey, a final evaluation, and an exit survey, all signed by their externship preceptor.

Transfer Credits

To have previous coursework considered for transfer credits, contact the college you attended and request for your official transcript(s) to be sent to Penn Foster College for evaluation. 

• Minimum grade of "C" required for transfer credit.
• Approved transfer credits will be deducted from your tuition.

Refund Policy

At Penn Foster, we continue to develop new ways to expand and improve student satisfaction. However, if you are not satisfied or can no longer continue your studies, we offer a generous refund policy. If you cancel within the first 6 days of enrollment you will receive a full refund. After the first 6 days your refund amount will be based on:

• Lessons completed
• Tuition collected
• Enrollment date
