Microsoft® Office 2016 Certificate Program Details

Penn Foster’s Online Microsoft® Office 2016 Certificate Program consists of courses that will cover the basics of Microsoft® Word™, Excel®, and PowerPoint®. You’ll also learn how to integrate Office applications, including Word,™ Excel®, and PowerPoint®. Additionally, you’ll receive hands-on projects after each course. You will need to buy Microsoft® Office.

Program Goal and Outcomes

Program Goal

To provide detailed instruction to students about how to use the Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as how to integrate Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to...

  • Demonstrate the fundamental skills needed to use the MS Word word-processing application
  • Create new Word documents, edit and format existing Word documents, add graphics and tables to Word documents, and merge Word documents
  • Demonstrate the fundamental skills needed to use the MS Excel spreadsheet application
  • Skillfully use the basic elements of Excel, create and use simple and complex formulas and functions, incorporate useful charts and graphs, add, delete, sort, and lay out table data
  • Demonstrate the fundamental skills needed to use MS PowerPoint presentation application
  • Explain the basic elements and fundamentals of Microsoft PowerPoint, insert objects and finish a presentation, work with PowerPoint tools, tables, and charts, apply Slide Master, shapes, and effects, and Insert hyperlinks, illustration objects, and media clips
  • Demonstrate the skills necessary to integrate an Excel spreadsheet into a Word document
  • Identify the tools used to integrate Word and Excel files, embed an Excel worksheet into a Word document, embed an Excel chart or graph into a Word document, explain the difference between object linking and embedding, describe the procedure for linking an object to a Word document, develop a form letter with form fields, and merge a database with a form letter
  • Demonstrate the skills necessary to integrate a Word document and table, and Excel chart with a PowerPoint Presentation
  • Identify the tools used to integrate Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, create PowerPoint presentations, place and manipulate clip art in a PowerPoint slide, work with themes and templates, add notes to a PowerPoint slide show, set the slide transitions for a PowerPoint slide show, embed and link Word and Excel material in PowerPoint presentations

Learn how to use Microsoft® Word™ to create, edit, and illustrate documents.

Objectives:

  • Create, edit, format, and merge Word™ documents.
  • Add graphics and tables.
Graded Project: Microsoft® Word™

This project gives you a chance to use your Word™ skills. Create four promotional documents for a company’s training event: a cover letter introducing the company, a facts sheet highlighting product features, a flier promoting the event, and a registration form.

In this course, you’ll learn about the most widely used spreadsheet program, Microsoft® Excel.® Excel® can perform numerical calculations and is also useful for non-numerical applications such as creating charts, organizing lists, accessing data, and automating tasks.

Objectives:

  • Use the basic elements of Microsoft® Excel.®
  • Add, delete, and sort data.
  • Create and use formulas, charts, and graphs.
Graded Project: Microsoft® Excel®

This project gives you the chance to use your Excel® skills. Create a simple worksheet to calculate the cost of office supplies, and track their increase or decrease in cost over a two-month period. Graph the results.

Microsoft® PowerPoint® is a powerful graphics presentation program for communicating ideas to an audience.

Objectives:

  • Understand the basic elements and fundamentals of Microsoft® PowerPoint.®
  • Apply Slide Master, shapes, and effects.
  • Insert hyperlinks, illustration objects, and media clips.
  • Work with advanced tools, tables, and charts.
Graded Project: Microsoft® PowerPoint®

You’ll complete a hands-on project where you will create a PowerPoint® presentation using text, charts, multimedia features, and custom animations.

Your first lesson in integrating Office applications covers integrating Word™ and Excel.®

Objectives:

  • Embed an Excel® worksheet, chart, or graph into a Word™ document.
  • Link an object to a Word™ document.
  • Develop a form letter with form fields, and merge a database with a form letter.

Your second lesson in integrating Office applications covers integrating Word,™ Excel,® and PowerPoint.®

Objectives:

  • Create a PowerPoint® presentation with clipart.
  • Embed and link Word™ and Excel® material in the presentation.
Graded Projects

Microsoft® Word™ and Excel® Project:

You’ll complete a hands-on project where you’ll prepare letterhead for the ABC Engineering Company, you’ll write a memo to a client, and create and embed a worksheet into the memo.

Microsoft® Word,™ Excel,® and PowerPoint® Project:

You’ll complete a hands-on graded project where you’ll create a presentation on world hunger using design templates, add clipart and an Excel® pie chart, and save the presentation as a video.
