Spanish Certificate Program Details

Penn Foster’s online Spanish Certificate Program consists of classes geared toward helping students gain foundational knowledge in the Spanish Language. Your classes cover how to read, write, and understand grammar and punctuation for basic Spanish conversations.

Program Goal

The program goal for Penn Foster's Spanish Certificate Program is to teach students the fundamentals of conversational Spanish.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to...

  • Identify correct uses of gender and pluralization in nouns and adjectives, noun/adjective agreement, and the numbers in Spanish.
  • Conjugate a variety of common Spanish verbs using the correct subject
  • Differentiate between commonly confused Spanish terms, such as ser/estar, saber/conocer, and ésta/está
  • Recognize correct use of the direct object pronoun
  • Identify adverbial prepositions
  • Translate and summarize poems and short stories in Spanish, answer questions about these stories in written Spanish, and translate sentences from English to Spanish/Spanish to English
  • Recognize vocabulary terms from, and answer questions based on, audio recordings
  • Give directions and answer questions that are commonly encountered when traveling
  • Write a short business letter entirely in Spanish using appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and abbreviations

  • Develop a study plan.
  • Start to acquire an active vocabulary.
  • Develop fluency with the vocabulary and grammar you learn.
  • Determine gender and indicate possession.
  • Practice using cardinal numbers and asking basic questions.

  • Recognize Spanish consonants.
  • Count from 1 to 9,999.

  • Use era and eran correctly.
  • Create story plots.
  • Recall and recite questions and answers using pictographs.

  • Place object pronouns correctly in sentences.
  • Recognize reflexive pronouns.

  • Listen to and read stories and dialogues to improve your pronunciation and comprehension.
  • Use the preterit, imperfect, and present perfect tenses correctly.

  • Listen to and read stories and dialogues to improve your pronunciation and comprehension.
  • Form the past participle of regular verbs.
  • Know the past participles of irregular verbs.
  • Recognize compound tenses.

  • Practice Spanish for business, travel, and everyday situations.
  • Describe how to have a conversation in Spanish-speaking countries.
