Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley is partnering with an Arizona-based distance learning school to allow adults to earn their high school diplomas at Goodwill’s Career Center.

It’s a move aimed at helping local residents overcome educational barriers to better careers, Goodwill Industries officials said.

“If people come in and show us they’re dedicated, (we’ll) enroll them with Penn Foster because this opportunity really gives people a second chance in the workforce,” the nonprofit’s vice president of workforce development, Ann Torledsky, said.

Penn Foster offers online and blended learning prog-rams across the country, graduating 30,000 students annually, company officials said.

Torledsky said 13 students enrolled locally through Goodwill’s Career Center have already graduated since the two sides linked in Janu-ary.
