Penn Foster Now Accepts Credits Earned Through MOOCs Endorsed by the American Council on Education

SCRANTON (March 5, 2013) - Penn Foster, a leader in career-focused online and hybrid education designed to address the skills gap in America, today announced it will accept massive open online courses (MOOCs) for equivalent semester credit as they are endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE), the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions.

“We are pleased to offer additional ways for our students to achieve their career objectives,” said Frank Britt, CEO of Penn Foster.  “MOOCs continue to validate the role of online education, which is foundational to our approach to delivering value.  At Penn Foster, we are dedicated to ensuring high-quality education options are available and accessible to any person interested in furthering their education and offering credit to our students for the time spent in MOOCs helps us continue to uphold this commitment.”

ACE seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research and program initiatives.  Recently, the Council evaluated and recommended college credit for an additional 73 courses offered by Penn Foster, totaling more than 110 Penn Foster courses that are eligible for college credit by ACE.
