Scranton, PA. (December 10, 2013) – Penn Foster, a leader in career-focused online and blended education designed to address the skills gap in America, today announced it has been selected as the recipient of the Voice of the Future award at the annual Social Media Leadership Awards, held in Philadelphia from Dec. 9 through Dec. 10. The award, which honors communications and marketing departments within institutions, recognized Penn Foster's online student Community, which gives students across Penn Foster High School, College, and Career School a platform to collaborate with their peers, faculty and Penn Foster graduates.
“We are honored to be selected for this award,” said Dara Warn, Chief Marketing Officer at Penn Foster. “Truly a team effort across the organization, our student-centered Community helps provide support and motivation for students to progress in their studies and achieve their goals. This award illustrates the power online and social technologies can provide educators, especially online educators, in fostering relationships with their students.”
In July of 2012, Penn Foster worked with social business agency 7Summits to launch a new version of the rapidly growing Penn Foster Community on the Jive Platform. The new platform offered Penn Foster a more robust tool for managing interactions with students and enabling peer-to-peer support – essentially a "virtual campus." Features include a community map where students can find other students in their area, over 200 academic groups, extensive FAQs and search capabilities, 1,000 student-authored and Penn Foster blogs, regular webinar series, polls and organized discussions, as well as a badging/gamification system using Bunchball Technology.
With over 11,000 active members and 30,000 daily page views, Penn Foster and its student Community received the Voice of the Future Award for driving a 200% increase in adoption within a year, as well as a 30% reduction in email support volume due to an increase in peer-to-peer and self-help.
The theme of this year's Social Media Leadership Awards focused on how organizations are utilizing social data to grow revenue and measure social media return on investment. A panel of 30 judges selected finalists from over 200 entries for the Social Media Leadership Awards' 18 categories based on innovative strategies and measureable success in achieving business objectives through the use of social media.
