SCRANTON, PA, (May 16, 2017) — Penn Foster Career School, a leading skills training provider focused on improving employability for workers across a range of in-demand fields, announced the launch of its Retail Supervisor Career Diploma program. Serving as a first level of management training, the program prepares students for a first-line supervisory role in the retail sector, to advance in the field of retail management, or to continue their educational path into subsequent levels of management training.
In order to prepare students to be successful on the job, students will gain a solid understanding of the customer service, management and leadership skills needed to lead a team across discount, convenience, supermarket, department store, big box, warehouse and specialty retailers. For those without prior retail or management experience, the program teaches knowledge and skills required to be a first-line supervisor and offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through the completion of the optional work experience. For individuals with previous retail experience, the program teaches supervisor and management fundamentals to get students on track for career advancement.
The Retail Supervisor course is offered through Penn Foster's new online learning platform, PFx, where students access interactive, mobile-friendly courses, progress-tracking and goal setting, and personal coaches to help them meet their academic and career goals.
To ensure industry alignment and relevance, Penn Foster sought out an Advisory Council of experts from across the retail industry to review and contribute to the program development. Courses cover a range of topics on the day-to-day operations of a retail supervisor, including how to improve the customer experience, on-the-job training, visual merchandising, store maintenance, retail transactions, team building and performance management. Graduates of this program can take the National Restaurant Association (NRA) ServSafe Food Handler online training course and certification at no additional cost; this certification is required for anyone working in a retail environment that requires food handling.
"We wanted to offer students the unique opportunity to earn a credential for first-level supervisory training in the retail setting," said Dara Warn, Chief Outcomes Officer, Penn Foster. "With this program we're able to round out our portfolio of educational offerings in management training, as graduates of this program are welcome to continue on with our Undergraduate Degree, Associate or Bachelor's Degrees in Business Management with Penn Foster College."
