Program Goal

To prepare students for the Certified Medical Laboratory exam through online study and hands-on training.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to...

  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and understand laboratory test requisitions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct in all aspects of laboratory practice, including patient confidentiality, respect for diversity, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team, including healthcare providers, nurses, and other allied health professionals, to ensure coordinated patient care and accurate laboratory testing.
  • Interpret and report laboratory test results accurately, recognizing normal and abnormal findings and understanding the significance of quality control measures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in specimen collection techniques, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen processing for various laboratory tests.
  • Understand and apply principles of medical laboratory science, including basic laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality assurance measures.
  • Identify common laboratory equipment and instruments used in medical laboratory settings and demonstrate proper handling, maintenance, and calibration techniques.
