The Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program can pay for courses and exams that lead to industry-recognized civilian credentials in an occupational area of your choice. You may use this program to enhance your skills, either in your current MOS, or in an occupation you would like to pursue when you leave military service. You can request CA funding for any credential listed on Army COOL.

Army Credentialing Assistance is available to members of the Regular Army, Active Guard/Reserve (AGR), U.S. Army Reserve (USAR), and Army National Guard Reserve (ANGR). These service members are eligible to pursue professional credentials to enhance their military and civilian career opportunities.

Several Penn Foster programs are eligible for Army Credentialing Assistance. These include career diplomas in Administrative Assistant, Diesel Mechanics/Heavy Truck Maintenance, HVACR Technician, IT Support Specialist, Optician Exam Prep, Payroll Clerk, Sterile Processing, and Veterinary Practice Management. Additionally, associate degrees in Paralegal Studies and Veterinary Technician are also covered, providing service members with valuable credentials to support both military and civilian career advancement.

The MyCAA (My Career Advancement Account) program provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance for spouses of active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps service members in pay grades E1–E5, W1–W2, and O1–O2, as well as spouses of activated Guard and Reserve members within those ranks. To qualify, Guard and Reserve spouses must begin and complete their program while their sponsor is on Title 10 orders. Eligible programs include associate degrees, certifications, and licensures, and must be completed within three years from the start of the first course. Effective 10/31/22, Penn Foster Group is no longer accepting new enrollments from veterans or their dependents who wish to use their VR&E benefits and GI Bill® (“veterans’ benefits”) as payment for their educational program(s).

 

Students enrolled prior to October 31, 2022, will be permitted to continue in their programs and utilize their VA benefits for the full duration of their program as outlined in their enrollment agreement. This change also impacts students who planned to re-enter after a withdrawal from school or those who considered changing their program of study.

Certifications are voluntary credentials offered by non-governmental agencies to set professional standards for qualifications. Certificates are typically issued after an individual attends or participates in a particular meeting or course, are educationally focused rather than occupationally focused, and are not always based on a formal job/practice analysis or role delineation study and may not be assessment based. Certificates are not listed on Army COOL.

Credentials included on COOL are analyzed carefully and must be relevant to a military occupation and meet COOL credential standards.

Army COOL is not the same as the Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program. Army COOL is a repository for all credentials that Soldiers wish to pursue and lists credentialing agencies that meet COOL credential standards. COOL does not list training vendors.

You can use the “recommend a credential” feedback form located on the Army COOL contact page to recommend a credential be added to COOL. Army COOL only includes national certifications and licenses, and does not include state licenses, training courses or certificate programs. Recommended credentials must be relevant to a military occupation and meet COOL credential standards prior to being included on COOL.
