Real Student Stories: How Military Spouse Kelsy Found Her Path as a Mom and Future RVT

As a military spouse, Kelsy knows how challenging it can be to balance family, work, frequent moves, and personal goals. But she never gave up on her dream of working in veterinary medicine. Now in San Diego, California, Kelsy is nearing the finish line of Penn Foster’s Veterinary Technician Degree Program and preparing for her second and final externship. We spoke with her about her journey to becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), balancing school with military life, and what kept her motivated along the way.

SpouseWorks Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements

Spouses of active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps service members in pay grades E1-E9, W1-W3 and O1-O3, as well as the spouses of activated Guard and Reserve members within those ranks. Spouses of Guard and Reserve members must be able to start and complete their program while their sponsor is on Title 10 orders.

The SpouseWorks Scholarship offers a maximum financial benefit of $4,000 with a fiscal year cap of $2,000.

Military spouses are required to finish their program of study within three years from the start date of the first course.

Qualifying education credentials are limited to associate degrees, certifications, and licensures.
