Program Goal

To prepare students to successfully manage electronic medical records (EMRs) in health care settings.

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to...

  • Process patient admission and discharge documents
  • Enter, record, store, and maintain information, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures, or treatment, in electronic form
  • Retrieve patient medical records for physicians, technicians, or other medical personnel
  • Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, and maintain and verify information or data
  • Understand the terminology and concepts related to third-party reimbursement
  • Use computer hardware and software, including applications, to enter data and process information using electronic medical record (EMR) software
