Virtual Assistant Courses FAQs

What is the average job description for a virtual assistant?

Since many virtual assistants work for themselves and network to find job opportunities, there's not necessarily a standard job description. However, most virtual assistants do have many of the same responsibilities no matter where they work or who they work for. As a virtual assistant, you'll complete administrative tasks for clients such as placing calls on behalf of the company, scheduling meetings and appointments, maintaining a client's schedule, and working with vendors for deliveries. You'll also be responsible for tasks such as creating presentations and documents, compiling reports from raw data, and more.

How do I become a successful virtual assistant?

Becoming a virtual assistant doesn't require a college degree, but to be successful in the role, it's important you have certain skills that are relevant to the variety of tasks you'll be expected to complete. As a virtual assistant, you'll need to have strong written and verbal communication skills, understand how to use computer applications like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and know how to market yourself as a freelancer or independent contractor. Through our online Virtual Assistant Training Program, you'll develop these skills on your schedule, from home.

What is the average salary for a virtual assistant?

The average salary for a virtual assistant can vary depending on several factors. Many virtual assistants work on a project-by-project basis or as freelancers, meaning that they are paid a fee for each project rather than a salary. Depending on experience and skills, freelance virtual assistants can charge anywhere from $15.56 to $23.56 an hour or more. However, according to data from PayScale, the average annual salary for virtual assistants working regularly with clients and on projects was $49,194 per year in 2022.*

What skills does a virtual assistant need?

A successful virtual assistant should have strong communication, organization, and time management skills. As someone who more often than not works remotely from a home office, you'll need to be able to effectively manage your time and stay organized to ensure you complete all the work your clients expect. Additionally, you should have strong computer skills and an understanding of social media in order to build an internet presence and attract new potential clients.
